Every Cowgirl Needs a Horse

I LOVE books - especially children's books. When I saw Every Cowgirl Needs a Horse in Scholastic, I was pretty excited.  Not only is Scholastic starting to carry ag books but the books looked really cute.  So, I ordered it and a few others.

I am in LOVE with this book.  I told my students that it is my new favorite book and that they better not complain when I read it to them 10 times every day.

The book is about a little girl who lives in the suburbs.  She wears a cowgirl hat, chaps, and a bandana tied around her neck.  The language that she uses is amazing - instead of saying that she is going to clean her guinea pig's cage she says that she mucks the stalls in the barn.  All she wants for her birthday is a horse. After she herds the neighborhood kids to her house for her birthday party her dad presents her with a brand new pink horse bike.  She was disappointed but pretended that is was a horse anyway.  On her first ride she crashed into her mother's garden and hurt her horse bike real bad.  But, her daddy was able to fix Beauty and she got back in the saddle again.  A real cowgirl always gets back into the saddle.

The cutest books I have read in a long time.  The vocabulary is AMAZING.  It can be used when teaching
writing (it has great voice and the word choice is outstanding).  It would be a great way to highlight ranch vocabulary.

Have you read the book?  Do you love it as much as I do?

Sarah,

Santa delivered this book to us over Christmas! I love to read it to my daughter, and my 6 year old son loves it too! That particular book order had several ag books in it! Glad to see scholastic becoming ag diversified!
