First Father’s Day

Since this was Michael’s very first Father’s Day I wanted to do something special for him.  He is an amazing father.  I always knew he would be a good father, but I never knew how good he would be to me during labor, after delivery, and during my recovery.  It is wonderful having such a great father and husband!

Avery and I devised a plan to surprise him with a trip to Cabela’s (which I am pretty sure is his favorite place on earth).  I thought about blindfolding him and driving him there, but then I had a dream we got pulled over and it was hard to explain to the cop.  So, I skipped that.  Someone (who shall remain nameless) spilled the beans but he knew all along and was just playing along.  In the morning we gave him his present.  I asked him what he wanted and he said a bow … he thinks we need a bow to match every outfit of Avery’s.  So, that’s what he got.

A bow for Avery to wear hunting and a bow in Michael’s camo (I made both).  Of course I had to add a book for Michael to read to her.  Then, we headed up to Reno where Michael was going to get a hunting bow (which is what he meant by bow).

We had a late lunch at Famous Dave’s – I’ve been there twice now and I still don’t understand what is famous about it.  It hasn’t been anything to write home about either time.  I don’t think we will be going back.

Then we headed over to Cabela’s to get his present.

What a milestone – Avery’s first trip to Cabela’s!

It took quite a while in the store to pick out and get fitted for a bow and arrows.  The guy helping us, Christian, was amazing!  I’m so happy we got such great customer service!  He did warn us that it takes a while but made the process feel like it went rather quickly.  We made it out of there just before closing!  Avery did great in the store too!  She loved watching daddy shoot his bow to sight it in.

Happy late Father’s day to all of the dad’s out there!

Did you do anything special for Father’s Day?

Happy Birthday to my Hubby!!

That handsome man I married is turning the big 2-9!!  Not as big as 30, but wow!!!  Time flies!

Doesn’t he clean up well?

Even with his face camo (or as I like to call it manflage) and face paint he’s handsome!

High five for your last birthday (for a while) without a single diaper change!  This picture was after Michael changed Heman’s diaper about a year and a half ago – they both look so young!

Happy Birthday love!!

Salmon!!

Michael went fishing this past weekend.  I was gone all last week at a conference and I was a little upset that he was going to be gone for my birthday weekend.  Not that we were going to do anything, but still!

He brought home a 20 pounder.

Michael also brought home 2 smaller fish.

Do you have a hard time getting your lover or kids to smile in pictures?  Michael never smiles – I had to practically beg him to smile in these pictures!  What do you do to get smiles?

The 3 salmon!  He also got some cod which were already filleted when he brought them home so I didn’t take a picture.  This made up for not being home this past weekend!

Our freezer is now full of fresh fish!  Salmon steaks, filets, and cod filets (not pictured).  Gosh I love being married to a hunter and fisherman!

How should I cook the salmon?  I have never cooked salmon before, so I NEED your help!!

Happy Birthday Michael!

Today Michael turns the big 2-7!  I cannot believe we are he is that old  (I still have a few months)!!  We are 20 years older than my students - 20 years older!!!  But, I can't complain ... getting older is pretty fun (aside from the sagging boobs and wrinkles but he doesn't have to worry about that)!  In honor of Michael's birthday, here are 27 things I love about him (in no particular order):
  1. He is handsome.
  2. He makes me laugh - every single day
  3. He supports me even if I make a mistake.
  4. He literally picks me up when I am down.
  5. I love that he holds my hand in the car.
  6. He is smart.
  7. He makes me laugh when I am about to cry.
  8. He BBQs for me.
  9. He doesn't complain too much when I steal the covers (or push them on him) every. single. night.
  10. He can fix my car.
  11. He encourages me when I want to give up.
  12. He forces me to spend money on myself.
  13. He loves my crazy family.
  14. He is a great Uncle ish person to Heman.
  15. He is honest (I may not appreciate this when he tells me my butt looks big and long but I do at other times).
  16. He cuddles with me on the couch.
  17. He makes the bed (if I get out of it before him).
  18. He listens to me.
  19. He takes me shopping.
  20. He has great style.  I mean this in the most manly way possible.
  21. He laughs at my lame jokes.
  22. He kisses me on the forehead.
  23. He eats my cooking.
  24. He makes a great cocktail.  And he even puts it in my hand when I have had a bad day.
  25. He supports my crazy ideas - he may look at me like I have lost my mind but he never says it!
  26. He will be an amazing father when the time comes.
  27. He is a man - there are so many people I know that have a boy for a husband or boyfriend!  It drives me crazy when they complain - what do you expect when you choose to be a mother instead of being a partner?  Anyway, back to Michael ...
Michael and I back in the AZ days - I think this was his 19th birthday!

Happy Birthday Michael!
I love you and hope you have an amazing day!

Wordless Wednesday - hunting

This weekend the boyfriend wanted to go hunting and nobody else wanted to go, so he *gasp* invited me to come along.  Michael has never EVER invited me to go hunting with him and I never thought he would, so of course I went.  It helped that it was an absolutely beautiful day (not ideal for goose hunting, but still just beautiful).  My job was to walk with him and be quiet (that was REALLY hard) and I got some great pictures along the way.
