Flat Aggie Sees Brangus Cattle

Today (2/28/13) Flat Aggie visited a beef cattle ranch in Gentry, Arkansas. Schwerin Farms, Inc raises primarily Brangus cattle on our 1000 acre ranch. This particular day consisted of feeding hay to about 200 cows. The cows will start calving March 1. All the calves will be born within 90 days to ensure optimum nutrition for the mothers' milk production while the calves nutritional needs are highest. Also, calving in this time period produces the best possibility of mild weather for the young calves. We will continue feeding hay every day until mid March wen our fescue ranch is about 6 inches tall.
