Citrus Lane Review and coupon link

I've been searching the last few months for a preschool subscription service. My kiddo is in daycare full time but I'd love to find some sort of preschool Saturday kit. Or a kit of mommy and me educational activities. But all I have found are 3 and 5 day per week preschool kits for full time care providers. Way more than what I need.

Anyhow, in this search Citrus Lane has shown up several times along the way. It is a monthly subscription service of items for your kiddo. They tailor the box to the age and gender of your little one and fill the box with appropriate items. When one of my friends posted the link to her referral link on facebook with the HALF off discount, I decided to try it out. For about $15 invested, it sure was worth the trial.

https://www.citruslane.com/invitedby/Shannon.Douglass.4342852

I'll warn you that I hadn't intended to do a review so I got a few photos after the fact. We were headed out on a road trip so I packed the items with us. I was ho-hum about them until I tried them out. Then I knew I would share the info.

Here is what my box contained:

Wet bag - photo from Citrus Lane website

So this wet bag is amazing. I did not think it would actually be waterproof. It was PERFECT for us at the pool this weekend. His suit and mine went in this bag after swimming and into the gym bag. Nothing else got wet and it was easy to pull out and leave by the washer. This is one of those items that I didn't expect to use, then wondered what I did without it. I ordered another one this weekend.Value $11.

"Artivity" Book with markers

Had to use the picture from their site for this one too as it has already been colored in. We used this one a bit on the road trip. Not something I would normally buy, but the kiddo enjoyed it. I liked that the markers came with it and a little kit. Value $8.

Dump Truck Puzzle

No surprise, the dump truck puzzle was a big hit. This is a very good quality puzzle. Puzzles are something I tend to forget about, but a great learning tool. Value $9.

The box included a good size bottle of baby wash/bubble bath. It was not very sudsy but smelled nice. Not surprising, we have already used it and I couldn't find a picture on their site. I'm guessing it was valued around $5.

We also received two snack bars. These appeared to be full size. Not something we will go out of our way to buy, but the kiddo enjoyed them. Probably a value of $3.

I almost forgot to mention a coupon was included for mail order bras. A very good coupon - $20 off $40 - but not something I'm very likely to use.

So in product alone this box was valued around $36, plus shipping. I paid $15. Good bargain for testing. The monthly price is $29 with discounts for buying several months.

This is the kind of box that I would like to get every other month. I found it very easy online to ask to "pause" my subscription to skip a month. I would love to be able to sign up for every other month or even quarterly.

So I'm very pleased and planning to continue with Citrus Lane. I love that this is tailored to gender and age, the quality was very good and these are items I would not pick out on my own. All good enough reasons for me.

This would make a great gift for a child. Very easy for the gifter and something new and exciting to arrive to the child by mail. Really good for the kiddos in your life who live a bit far away.

So if you would like to try it for yourself at HALF price follow this link

Note - of course I get referral perks, but I also get to share the discount. :)

Have you tried a service like this? What did you think or which company do you prefer? I'm still on the search for a simple preschool style subscription service so if you know of one of those pass the info along!

Silent Sunday Sunflowers

The first field of sunflowers - for us - is already done blooming.

I was a little past the prime photo opportunity on these.

But we have one more field yet to bloom, so I will try to be more on the ball with those pictures.

First Father’s Day

Since this was Michael’s very first Father’s Day I wanted to do something special for him.  He is an amazing father.  I always knew he would be a good father, but I never knew how good he would be to me during labor, after delivery, and during my recovery.  It is wonderful having such a great father and husband!

Avery and I devised a plan to surprise him with a trip to Cabela’s (which I am pretty sure is his favorite place on earth).  I thought about blindfolding him and driving him there, but then I had a dream we got pulled over and it was hard to explain to the cop.  So, I skipped that.  Someone (who shall remain nameless) spilled the beans but he knew all along and was just playing along.  In the morning we gave him his present.  I asked him what he wanted and he said a bow … he thinks we need a bow to match every outfit of Avery’s.  So, that’s what he got.

A bow for Avery to wear hunting and a bow in Michael’s camo (I made both).  Of course I had to add a book for Michael to read to her.  Then, we headed up to Reno where Michael was going to get a hunting bow (which is what he meant by bow).

We had a late lunch at Famous Dave’s – I’ve been there twice now and I still don’t understand what is famous about it.  It hasn’t been anything to write home about either time.  I don’t think we will be going back.

Then we headed over to Cabela’s to get his present.

What a milestone – Avery’s first trip to Cabela’s!

It took quite a while in the store to pick out and get fitted for a bow and arrows.  The guy helping us, Christian, was amazing!  I’m so happy we got such great customer service!  He did warn us that it takes a while but made the process feel like it went rather quickly.  We made it out of there just before closing!  Avery did great in the store too!  She loved watching daddy shoot his bow to sight it in.

Happy late Father’s day to all of the dad’s out there!

Did you do anything special for Father’s Day?

June Stitch Fix!

I am officially signed up for every other month 'fixes' to keep my wardrobe perked up! My latest arrived today.

If you haven't tried Stitch Fix yet here is the deal - it is a mail order clothing/stylist program. And, it is pretty much amazing for anyone who is a) busy or b) not a fan of shopping. Pretty much for someone like me, it rocks.

Stitch Fix

1. You go online and set up a style profile. This is pretty fun to do helps the stylists get an idea about things you like, the clothing you need for work and your sizing. They don't charge to set up the profile.
2. As often as you request (or you can set it up monthly or every other month) you request a "fix" or clothing shipment.
3. They send you five items that the stylist thinks you will like with styling suggestions. These are not Box Store clothes, these are boutique quality items. And they give you great suggestions on how to wear them.
4. Your clothes arrive at your door step beautifully packaged and ready to try on in your home.
5. You get 3 days to decide what you want to keep and send the other items back in the postage paid bag.
6. Tell them what you liked and didn't and why and your future fixes will get even better. You also get a 25% discount if you keep all 5 items.
You pay for what you keep and only a $20 styling fee if you don't keep anything. Shipping is included in that fee.

Check it out at https://www.stitchfix.com/referral/3314914.
Note: I'm not paid by Stitch Fix (I wish) for this post but I do get referral benefits if you decide to check it out and use my link. So check it out!

This time I told my stylist that I was interested in a blazer and jeans. I keep hearing great things about their jeans and was really liking the jersey type blazers I saw in their blog. I was happy that they listened and delivered this:

image(6)
Chevron Cross Front Top - $48
I LOVE this shirt. I love the color, fabric and print. It is my favorite item in the fix and a clear KEEP. This color looked great on me - sorry the pic stinks - and it made me want to get online and order other tops in this same color.
image(3)
Striped Side Gathered Short Sleeved Shirt - $54
This looks black and white but is actually navy which looks nice with the pink. I really like the fit, but the pattern started to bother me. The whole print looks a bit "off kilter" which I think was the goal. But it really started to bother me how they moved not quite level across my boobs. Status: unsure.
image(1)
French Terry Blazer - $78
So this is one of the things I requested. My stylist made sure to get me a big enough size for the chest, but that made it super long in the arms. It also ends up hitting me funny in the waist and kinda long in the hips. Plus this color isn't my favorite. I'm going to request another blazer, but a neutral one. Grey or brown would be perfect. Something neutral that would work with more outfits would be worth the price. The fabric was wonderfully soft. Status - returned.
image(2)
Super long blazer sleeves. They did look good rolled, but I'd like something to wear both ways.

image(4)
Chevron Striped Henley Tank - $44
I really liked this top in the box, but sadly it was WAY too small in the bust. This was the deal breaker item for this fix. If this had fit, I would have kept the whole box. The maybe items would have been keepers and made it work the discount to keep them all. I'm not sure why they didn't realize this fit issue since they were so good about noting it on the blazer.Status : returned.
image(5)
If the first photo wasn't clear on the level of smallness, here is another pic. I suppose it would be a great minimizer shirt. :/ So if you want to squish your chests down, here is the shirt to do it. It fit otherwise.
image
Ankle Zip Skinny Jeans - $78
First, these are the most comfortable pants like, ever. And they really fit great. I was really impressed. I'm wearing these in each of the photos. But... I hate the color and zipper. Again if the darn tank had fit I would have kept them. But the black and the zipper felt really retro - not in a good way. I haven't owned black jeans since FFA and really don't like the zipper embellishment. I'm going to ask her to send me a pair in my next fix with no zipper and in jean color. Status - returned.

Overall I'm still very happy with the service and experience. We even got my mom hooked on it. She hates shopping more than anyone I have ever met, so this is great for her. Her fix should arrive tomorrow and I'm looking forward to checking hers out.

What do you think? What would you have kept?

Heman turns 3!

I can’t believe it has been 3 whole years since the “We-had-a-baby IT’S-a-boy” call from my sister.  (Remember that commercial – still so funny!)

DSC_0047

He had a super cute train party at the fair grounds.  There was a real train the kids (and adults) got to ride on all afternoon.  Although, Heman was a little more focused on pine cones but it was still the perfect party for him!

DSC_0062

My brother got him this present.  When we asked Heman what it was, he said he didn’t know.  So, he started unwrapping it.  It was wrapped quite well, so grandma had to help him while the rest of us tried not to pee our pants at Heman’s hilariousness.

DSC_0069

Grandma: What do you think it is?

Heman: I don’t know.

Grandma: Look, it has a trigger.  What has a trigger?

Heman: I don’t know.

Grandma:  Here’s the barrel.  What has a trigger and a barrel?

Heman: I don’t know.

He is such a funny kid!

Do you know what is was?

A New Normal …

Life changes all the time and sometimes it takes a little while to get used to the new normal.  It seems like this is my new normal:

DSC_0003

Can you believe that little baby made that mountain of laundry?

At least she’s happy!  It might be a better reflection of my new normal if she were covered in spit up and/or crying.  And it may or may not include me covered in her spit up and crying – lol!

DSC_0001

She’s actually a pretty good baby – especially when she’s sleeping!

In all seriousness – I think we lucked out in the baby department!  She is a good little girl!  Of course she has her bad days and is by no means a perfectly behaved baby, but she is still cute when she cries!

What is your normal looking like these days?
